The New Craftsmen Orkney Residency Project

Orkney to London, 2019

As part of London Design Festival 2019, The New Craftsmen presented ‘Portrait of Place: Orkney’, a collection which celebrated the profound connection between craft and place, and the ancient straw-working traditions of these remote Islands. The resulting collection of the one month residency, encompassed lighting, furniture and artworks, presented in an exhibition produced by renowned set-designer Simon Costin. Maker workshops, panel discussions, trade breakfasts, and a private VIP dinner hosted by Quo Vadis’s Jeremy Lee, took place in the Mayfair showroom throughout the exhibition. Marketing materials included; digital press releases, blog posts, evites and newsletters, as well as printed takeaway posters, makers cards and showroom signage.
